PIREN-Seine is a research program whose objective is to develop an overall vision of the functioning of the system formed by the hydrologiocal network of the Seine River, its watershed and the human society that invests it. The ecological functioning of the entire river system and its modeling, from bacteria to fish, are based on a detailed study of the physical, chemical and biological processes of the aquatic environments.
The models developed by PIREN-Seine simulate the ecological and biochemical variations of the hydrosystem, from headwater streams to the mouth of the estuary. Supported by Sorbonne Université and the CNRS, it brings together teams from several universities, research centers, engineering schools, and research departments of the operators concerned. Work is being carried out with most public or private stakeholders in water management in the Seine-Normandy basin.
